Can you think back to certain times in your life when anticipation was a demon in and of itself? The thoughts before can be just as horrible as the thoughts during. Perhaps some of the moments that come to mind were of small importance in the grand scheme of things, but others perhaps had an overwhelming gravity. Although each example is different, there is a hint of the same feeling in one degree or another. You could do nothing to avoid it, but still the consequences of whatever you were anticipating would be disatrous.
Counting down the minutes when you were little and waiting until mom or dad got home and found the broken cookie jar.
Just before the flashing reds and blues came on when you rolled through a stop sign seconds before you saw the cop car.
The moments as you walk down the hallway right after you got the message that you were wanted in your boss's office... alone.
Waiting for the surgeoun in the waiting room knowing that the news can't be good.
I had several of those days last week...
... I buried my wife today.
